Almost every true Punjabi might have watched Harpal Tiwana's classic Laung Da Lishkara.But how many of them know real name of the leading lady of the film,who played character of Peeto-the young beautiful maid of the Haveli.

Even i was not aware of before the Internet revolution,got to know her name was Harpreet Deol through IMDB.COM.
But no one is aware of her whereabouts.So the lady in question is happily married in America to Dr.Gursharan Dosanjh.A month back i got in touch with her online,Though she was still reclusive to talk,i contacted one of her daughter,who might have encouraged Harpreet to talk about her short acting stint.

Harpreet Deol basically belonged to Ludhiana,and was studying in Chandigarh(living in Hostel).Harpal Tiwana and Neena Tiwana-Theatre Veteran were looking for a leading face for their movie.They noticed Harpreet when they visited their friend(College Professor) in the College.Since Harpreet was already doing college plays,she was thrilled when her professor told her about the news.But she knew her parents will object.

So Neena Tiwana went to meet them,and convinced them that they will take care of her,Harpreet also promised them that she wont do any other film after Laung Da Lishkara.So Harpreet was finalized for the role of Peeto,Shooting started in Patiala,her college staff was supportive,so her studies did not suffer much.She was only raw among experienced actors like Raj Babbar,Om Puri,Nina Tiwana,Nirmal Rishi,Mehar Mittal,Sardar Sohi etc,and she had scenes with all of them.She performed with ease in all her scenes with them.

Film was stalled in between due to lack of funds,but soon was restarted.Its songs specially Challa was already popular,Her Posters were all over in Poster Stands of Punjab.She joined the team on Premiere,and walked out with praise for her performance.Film Reviews of Major Newspaper praised the natural act.Some filmmakers came forward to sign her but she said no to film offers.

One producer wanted to sign her for a film opposite Gurdas Mann,and he asked Tiwanas to contact her,though they knew she wont break the promise she did to her parents,but they still tried,but they got to know her marriage was fixed,Her parents said they have no objection,but now they should ask her in laws.

Harpreet was known face,so going out would become difficult for her.She recalls that Shopping for her marriage was very difficult,as people would recognize her at all places,be it cloth or jewel shops.

After Marriage she moved to America,now a Grandmother.When asked about joining acting field again,she says that She never give a thought about it,as she was busy with her family commitments,four kids and business,now she could think about it,but it depend upon what kind of offer,otherwise she is happy with her life.

Of course cine lovers would love to see her again,What if there is sequel to Laung Da Lishkara,that will be a cinematic experience..
